The age old saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ is a valued foundation to the philosophy and focus of The Good Latch; it also takes a village to nurture and support parents. Especially when it comes to lactation. In Norwegian, a phrase represents becoming a first-time parent- ‘nybakte foreldre’. Which translates to ‘freshly baked parents’. First-time parents are often at their most vulnerable when confronted with lactation concerns. Parents during their subsequent pregnancies and feeding journeys may feel anxious about how the next feeding experience may be- and can be overwhelmed as they experience the feeding journey as it starts.

The Good Latch offers a service where listening to understand is valued, and compassion, dignity and respect is shown.

I’m Laurinda, I have been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2016, a Registered Midwife (RM) for over 17 years and a Registered Nurse (RN) for over 23 years. Alongside running The Good Latch, I work part-time for a hospital as their clinical lactation consultant; I care for families with premature and term infants with lactation concerns, unwell breastfed babies, parents experiencing mastitis, as well as support hospital staff with their lactation knowledge. I am fortunate to be able to educate Doctors/Midwives/Nurses about lactation (this keeps me very well informed and up to date on the latest lactation research and resources), and enjoy enabling their professional growth. On a personal note, I’m an Aussie married to a lovely Norwegian, together we have 2 children. My personal struggles with initiating and understanding breastfeeding has quite literally led me here- doing what I am most passionate about, giving time and ongoing support as an IBCLC.

For your reassurance, I am fully vaccinated against preventable diseases and illnesses as recommended by The Australian Government (Hepatitis B, Influenza, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Pertussis/Whooping Cough, and Corona Virus).
